Below are pictured two of the brass masters. The Italian SM82 has been cleaned. The British Wellington has not.  The black coating on the Wellington is a sealed graphite surface, applied to the  models prior to molding.

Please note in the photo to the left, the black coating on the surface. This black color is the sealed graphite coating. It can be polished off with some effort and a sonic cleaner.
